US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested an Azerbaijani citizen with multiple criminal convictions, including cruelty to animals and arson.
Rafael Vladimirovi Sarkisyan, a national of Azerbaijan, was taken into custody by ICE Los Angeles on November 25. He is currently being held in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.
According to ICE officials, Sarkisyan had previously been convicted of cruelty to animals, as well as causing a structure fire and manufacturing controlled substances.
Sarkisyan's immigration status is not yet clear, although it is reported that he entered the country illegally. The US Department of State has issued travel warnings for Azerbaijan due to terrorism concerns, advising US travelers to exercise increased caution in the country.
The arrest highlights ongoing efforts by ICE to identify and apprehend individuals with a history of serious crimes, regardless of their immigration status.
