Exxon sues California over climate laws, alleging free speech violations

I think it's crazy that Exxon is trying to sue Cali for being too transparent about climate change . Like, what's the worst that could happen if we know how much CO2 they're spewing? Shouldn't they want people to be informed about their own emissions?

It's not like this is a new idea - other companies are already required to report their emissions and risks, so why does Exxon need to fight it? And what's with the "free speech" thing? They can say whatever they want in their annual reports, but at least they have to be honest about it now .

I'm all for pulling back the curtain on greenwashing, like the supporters of these laws said. It's time for big corps like Exxon to take responsibility for their actions and stop trying to weasel out of transparency . Maybe if they were more transparent, we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place

um, really? so exxon mobil is just gonna sue california over this climate stuff? it's like, they're one of the biggest polluters out there and now they're complaining about having to be transparent about their emissions?

i mean, i get that transparency can be uncomfortable for companies, but come on, this is about saving the planet not just their bottom line. and what's with all these lawsuits? shouldn't exxon be using its influence to promote sustainable practices instead of trying to block them?

and btw, it's interesting that they're complaining about being forced to use certain methodologies for reporting their emissions... doesn't that kind of sound like a conflict of interest? i'd love to see the source on this one.

Ugh, this is so predictable ... Like, Exxon's been trying to weasel out of taking responsibility for its own pollution for years now . And now they're claiming that California's laws are infringing on their right to free speech? Give me a break . Newsflash, Exxon: if you don't want to disclose your emissions and climate risks, then maybe you shouldn't be making so much money off fossil fuels in the first place . And another thing, what's up with this "greenwashing" nonsense? Companies like yours have been lying about their environmental track record for decades now . It's time to stop playing both sides and take some real action on climate change .

And can we talk about how laughable it is that they're claiming California's laws are too vague? Like, they want specificity when it comes to the threat of climate change, but they don't want to disclose the specifics of their own operations? ...
