Stephen Colbert on Pete Hegseth's Venezuela scandal: 'Frantically pointing the finger'

Late-night hosts were quick to poke fun at President Trump's latest antics, from renaming the Institute of Peace after himself to claiming he has a healthcare plan – despite having no idea what it entails.

Trump's decision to abandon guidelines aimed at increasing electric car production was also subject to ridicule. "All you need in a car is the basics, folks," he joked. "You need the gas pedal, you need the steering wheel, and a little hula lady on the dashboard."

Colbert cleverly parodied Trump's style by saying, "Dance for me, tiny ukulele bride!" when discussing the new auto standards.

But it was Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth who really caught Colbert's attention. Hegseth had authorized military strikes against alleged drug smugglers off the coast of Venezuela without any concrete evidence – and even then, they found survivors attempting to continue their smuggling operation. This has been deemed a clear breach of international law by members of his own party.

Colbert was not having it when Hegseth pointed fingers at Navy Admiral Frank "Mitch" Bradley, who testified that the surviving smugglers were still trying to finish their job despite their ship being destroyed. Colbert quipped, "Yeah, but the boat was blown to bits! How were they going to continue their drug run? Ride to Miami on the back of dolphin drug mules?"

Meanwhile, Jimmy Kimmel found humor in Trump's claim that he has a healthcare plan – and his struggles to remember it. The host joked that Trump would be the only president who thinks Google counts as "loyal viewers."

Kimmel also took aim at the renaming of the Institute of Peace, now dubbed the Donald J Trump Institute of Peace – "and casino." A White House spokesperson defended the move by saying it was a bloated and useless entity. Kimmel shot back that so were other entities that got renamed.

On The Daily Show, Jordan Klepper referenced the growing pressure on the Department of Justice to release files about convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Klepper joked about the release of over 150 photos from Epstein's Caribbean estate, known as "Epstein Island." He mocked the opulence and decor, calling it a "two-star Airbnb."

The Daily Show host also poked fun at the lack of bombshells in the latest file releases and noted how Epstein's private island looked like a failed DIY project. Klepper even joked that no one got hired as an interior designer for the estate – despite having access to a wealth of resources.

😂 I gotta say, Trump's ego is getting out of control 🤯! Like, who renames the Institute of Peace after themselves? It's just ridiculous 💥. And Colbert's joke about "tiny ukulele bride" was ON POINT 🎸. The guy's got no idea what he's talking about when it comes to policy, and that's just a fact 👀. Meanwhile, Hegseth's military strike move is straight up shady 🤥. How can you just authorize strikes without concrete evidence? That's a big league mistake 😳. And Trump's healthcare plan claim... 🙄, I mean, come on, dude! Google doesn't count as "loyal viewers" 🤣. Kimmel's jokes are always fire 🔥, and Jordan Klepper's Epstein Island joke was so funny it made me LOL 😂. The man's island looked like a failed DIY project 🛠️, and I'm surprised he didn't get an interior design degree after building that place 💁‍♂️

omg i cant even lol @ trump trying 2 pass off some random stuff as his healthcare plan idk wut he's thinkin 🤣 like, google dont count as loyal viewers LOL and then theres him tryna rebrand the institute of peace into the donald j trump institute of peace & casino um come on dude that sounds like a bad business idea 🤑

Trump's antics are getting old, you know? 🙄 Like, come on, renaming the Institute of Peace after yourself and calling it a "casino"? That's just ridiculous. And his healthcare plan? Forget about it! It's like he thinks we're all just going to magically remember what it entails just because he said so. 😂

But what really gets me is when people like Hegseth start making decisions without concrete evidence, and then get all huffy when called out on it. I mean, that's not how the military works, Pete! It's like a bad reality TV show where anyone can be a hero – as long as you're willing to look good in a suit. 😂

And can we talk about the state of our media for a second? Late-night hosts are having so much fun skewering Trump and his team, but sometimes I wish they'd turn their attention to some of the actual issues at hand. Like, what's really going on behind the scenes? How is that information getting disseminated? 🤔

And lastly, have you seen those 150 photos from Epstein's island? 📸 It's like something out of a bad Bond villain movie – opulent, decadent, and just plain messed up. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to build a private island as a playground for pedophiles? 👀

lol what is wrong with trump he cant even remember his own healthcare plan 🤣 i mean come on its not that hard to keep track of your own stuff, but this guy forgets its like everyone else lol. and those auto standards thingy... who needs electric cars anyway? 🚗🔋 but seriously though, hes making us look bad on the world stage again. and defense secretary hegseth is like a one-man show over there, no evidence and still they just drop bombs 🤯 thats what i call reckless. colberts jokes are always spot on tho 👍 and kimmels take on the renaming of the institute of peace... honestly who thought it was a good idea to rename an institution after yourself? like, hello its called the institute of peace not "your name" 🙄

I don’t usually comment but I think late-night hosts are doing a pretty good job of keeping us entertained while also pointing out some pretty questionable stuff that politicians are saying and doing 🤣. Like, come on Trump, renaming the Institute of Peace after yourself? It's just weird 🙄. And Defense Secretary Hegseth, dude, you're basically making up rules as you go along 💥. But at the same time, I think it's also pretty funny when they're poking fun at each other and themselves, like Colbert with that ukulele joke 😂. It keeps things lighthearted and not too serious, which is what we need sometimes 🤷‍♂️.

I don’t usually comment but I gotta say, these late-night hosts are killing it tonight 🤣. Trump's antics have become so cringeworthy that even the comedians can't help but roast him. But seriously, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth taking aim at Navy Admiral Frank Bradley is a whole new level of funny 😂. The way Colbert roasted Hegseth was spot on, and I'm low-key impressed by Kimmel's healthcare joke - "loyal viewers" 🤦‍♂️. Klepper's Epstein Island jokes were also on point, especially the DIY project comment 🏠. It's hilarious how these hosts are using their platforms to poke fun at Trump's blunders without actually being mean-spirited 🙅‍♂️. Anyway, keep 'em coming! 👍

lol I gotta say, late night hosts are on fire tonight 🤣! Trump's antics are just too rich, from the Institute of Peace to his healthcare plan (which sounds like it was written by a kindergartener) 😂. And Pete Hegseth's military strike debacle is like something out of a bad action movie – concrete evidence or not, he still went ahead and authorized strikes? 🚫

And Jimmy Kimmel's jokes about Trump's Google loyalty status had me dying 💀. Renaming the Institute of Peace to the Donald J Trump Institute of Peace – and casino? That's just pure genius 🤣. Colbert's hula lady joke is also a winner 👏.

Jordan Klepper's Epstein Island jokes were pretty spot on, too 😂. I mean, who needs interior designers when you've got a private island that looks like a failed IKEA project? 🛋️ And the 150+ photos of Epstein's pad are just begging to be ridiculed – like what, was it a Instagram influencer shoot or something? 🤣

omg i'm dying over here!! 🤣 Trump is literally impossible, renaming the Institute of Peace after himself and now calling it a casino?! like what's next? him buying a timeshare on the moon?! 🌕 meanwhile colbert is just over here being his usual savage self and i am HERE. FOR. IT 💁‍♀️ and can we talk about epstein's island tho?! like a two-star airbnb lmao 😂 it's like someone threw up all their decorating ideas in one place and called it a day 🤣

Trump is such a joke, I mean have you seen this guy? Renaming institutions after himself? It's just ridiculous 🤣. And Colbert totally roasted him, I love how he went all in on Trump's ego. The image of the tiny ukulele bride and "dance for me" is gonna be stuck in my head forever 💃🏻.

And then there was Hegseth, Defense Secretary? What a move, sending in military strikes with no solid evidence. Like, dude, you can't just go around making things up and expecting everyone to buy it 🤦‍♂️.

I'm also loving Jimmy Kimmel's take on Trump's healthcare plan – I mean who needs Google when you've got your own version of fact-checking? And the Institute of Peace thing? Come on, that's just lazy 😴. The White House should at least have the decency to rename it something with a bit more... flair.

Jordan Klepper's Epstein Island jokes were top-notch though – I mean who wouldn't want to visit a two-star Airbnb in the Caribbean? 🏖️👀 And can we talk about how no one got hired as an interior designer on that thing? It's like they just threw some stuff together and called it a day.

omg, trump is just getting more and more extra 🤣🇺🇸 #TrumpTakedown #LateNightShenanigans - i mean, renaming the institute of peace after himself? what's next, renamig the moon? 🌕😂 #SpaceX #MoonLanding #NotMyPresident

and can we talk about defense secretary heghseth for a sec? like, who authorizes military strikes without concrete evidence? that's just reckless 🚫💥 #InternationalLaw #Venezuela #NoToWar

colbert and jimmy kimmel are killing it with their roasts of trump 🤣👊 #FakeNews #AlternativeFacts - i love how they're not afraid to poke fun at the president's antics 💁‍♂️ #ComedyGold

jordan klepper on the daily show is on fire 🔥💣 #EpsteinIsland #FailedDIY - those files released were like, totally underwhelming 🤷‍♀️ #NoBombshells #Underwhelmed

omg, can we talk about how these late night hosts are actually doing some good by keeping trump and his people in check? i mean, Colberts parodying hegseths military moves was on point 🤣 and jimmy kimmels jokes about the donald's healthcare plan were low-key genius 😂. but seriously, it's refreshing to see some satire going on here. kleppers jokes about epstein island though... that one was a bit too dark even for me 🤪. anyhoo, i'm loving this late night show era of comedy – it's like they're keeping our presidents on their toes 🙌

🤣😂 omg what is up with trump rn? renaming the institute of peace into his own name like "donald j trump institute of peace - and casino" lol but then again i feel bad for navy admiral frank bradley getting finger pointed at by hegseth like come on pete 🙄

i also love how jimmy kimmel roasted trump's healthcare plan like google counts as loyal viewers? that's fire 🔥 meanwhile on the daily show jordan klepper's jokes about epstein's island are giving me life 😂 two-star airbnb lol
