Five Nights at Freddy's 2 review – inept game-based horror is one of the year's worst

The latest installment of the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, a series that has seemingly become synonymous with lazy game-to-movie adaptations, is a mess of a film that struggles to deliver even the most basic of horror tropes. Director Emma Tammi and screenwriter Scott Cawthon are content to phone in a half-baked attempt at suspense sequences, which ultimately fall flat due to their ineptitude.

The story follows Vanessa, Mike, and Abby as they uncover more secrets about an abandoned Chuck E Cheese-style restaurant and its haunted mascots. However, the plot meanders aimlessly, with long stretches of non-sequiturs and poorly executed attempts at tension-building. The film's pacing is glacial, making it feel like a chore to sit through.

One of the most egregious issues with Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is its complete lack of subtlety. Instead of trying to craft a genuine horror experience, the movie resorts to obvious jump scares and cheap thrills. The animatronic characters lumber around with all the finesse of a drunken elephant, making it difficult to take their "killing spree" seriously.

The film's attempts at nostalgia are equally as unsuccessful. Cawthon's nod to 80s classics like Jurassic Park and Scream falls flat due to poor execution and an overreliance on shallow references. The movie's themes of neglectful parents and the Marionette character feel tacked on, lacking any real depth or resonance.

The ending, if you can even call it that, is a laughable attempt at setting up a sequel. With no real resolution to the story and a shrug-worthy conclusion, it feels like the filmmakers are more concerned with protecting their franchise than crafting a genuine narrative.

Ultimately, Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is a soulless, lazy cash-grab that fails to deliver on even the most basic of horror expectations. It's a reminder that sometimes, less really can be more – especially when it comes to film adaptations of popular video games.

Ugh, I'm so disappointed in this movie 🤦‍♀️! I mean, come on, a lazy cash-grab is the perfect way to describe it. They took all the hype from the game and just phoned it in 📞. The plot was meandering like a toddler who can't walk straight, and don't even get me started on those jump scares 😴. It's like they wanted to see how many times they could make you jump before actually delivering any real horror. And the ending? Forget about it! 🚫 It felt like they just threw in some last-minute nonsense to set up a sequel, because who cares about a good story? The franchise needs to rethink its approach if it wants to scare anyone. 😬

I just got done watching this movie and I'm still trying to process how bad it is 🤯. The whole point of Five Nights at Freddy's is supposed to be creepy and suspenseful, but the filmmakers must have decided to phone in from day one. The animatronics are so awkwardly designed they look like they're going to fall over any second, and don't even get me started on the "jump scares" – it's just lazy editing 🙄.

And what's up with the ending? I mean, can't we just have a decent conclusion without setting up some sequel nonsense? It feels like the filmmakers are more worried about keeping their franchise alive than telling a genuine story. Newsflash: it works both ways, guys!

I just watched Five Nights at Freddy's 2 and I'm still trying to process how bad it was 🤯😴 The filmmakers seem to have taken all the fun out of the game and turned it into a boring, formulaic movie that relies on cheap jump scares and shallow references. And don't even get me started on the pacing – it's like they're trying to put me to sleep 😒. The story is so disjointed and the characters are paper-thin, I couldn't care less about what happens to them. Overall, this movie feels like a lazy cash-grab that fails to deliver on any level. Maybe they should've stuck to the game instead of trying to turn it into a movie 🤷‍♂️

omg what a mess 🤣 i mean ive played all the five nights at freddy's games and i was expecting some decent scares but nope this movie was like my aunt trying to scare me as a kid lol 😂 Emma Tammi musta taken a nap or something 'cause there's literally zero suspense. And those animatronics? More like animatronic flops 🤡. who thought it was a good idea to have the marionette character? kinda like a creepy cousin at the family reunion 👻. and dont even get me started on the ending, it was like they just phoned in the credits roll and expected everyone to be like 'yay sequel!' 🎥😴

OMG 🤯, I'm so disappointed in this latest Five Nights at Freddy's movie... like, I love the game series but this one is just a total letdown 😔. The pacing is so slow and the scares are literally just cheesy jump scares that don't even work anymore 🙄. And don't even get me started on the plot, it's all over the place 🌪️. They need to go back to the drawing board and make something that actually delivers some real horror vibes 💀.

I was also really looking forward to some nostalgic 80s references but honestly they felt so forced and awkward 😳. And can we please talk about how lazy the ending is? Like, I didn't even care what happened next anymore 🤷‍♀️. Overall, I'd say this movie is a total waste of time 🕰️. Let's stick to making horror movies that actually scare us, not just trying to cash in on a popular franchise 💸

Ugh, I was so hyped for this movie and now I'm just disappointed 😔. The whole thing felt like a mess, the pacing was all over the place and those animatronics looked more like they belonged in a bad 90s music vid 🤣. And don't even get me started on the ending, it was so anti-climactic 🙄. I mean I guess if you're gonna do a horror movie, at least try to make it scary or have some real tension, not just rely on cheap jump scares and weird nostalgia references 🎃. I'm still hoping for a better sequel though, because this one was just too lazy 😒.

omg have you guys tried those new vegan pizza places downtown? i went to this one last night and their cauliflower crust is insane 🤯 like, who knew vegans could make pizza taste so good? anyway, back to the movie... 5 nights at Freddy's is just so cheesy (pun intended) 🧀 it's like they took every horror cliche and mashed them all together into this big ol' mess. i mean, who needs subtlety when you can have jump scares right? 😂 but seriously, what happened to the movie industry? it seems like everything is just a cash grab these days...
