US judge orders release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from immigration detention

US Judge Orders Release of Wrongfully Deported Immigrant Amid Controversy Over Trump Administration's Policies

A federal judge in Maryland has ordered the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident who was wrongfully deported by the Trump administration to El Salvador in March. The decision comes after Abrego Garcia's return to the US was marked by re-detention without lawful authority.

Abrego Garcia entered the US as a teenager without documentation and had been residing in Maryland with his family for years. In 2019, an immigration judge ruled that he could not be deported to El Salvador due to the risk of harm from a gang targeting his family. However, the Trump administration continued to pursue his deportation, despite this ruling.

The court's decision is seen as a major victory for critics of the Trump administration's hardline policies on immigration. The case has become a rallying point against President Trump's mass deportation campaign. Abrego Garcia's wrongful deportation has also sparked outrage over the alleged human smuggling charges filed against him by federal authorities, which he claims are vindictive.

The judge's ruling is a significant rebuke to the Trump administration's attempts to use immigration policies as a means of punishment. In her decision, Judge Xinis stated that the administration "affirmatively misled" the court, including falsely claiming that Costa Rica had rescinded an offer to accept Abrego Garcia.

Abrego Garcia has been seeking asylum in the US and has petitioned to reopen his immigration case through this channel. The Trump administration's attempts to deport him to African countries have been met with fierce opposition from immigrant rights groups and human rights advocates.

The ruling is a reminder of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Trump administration's policies on immigration and the need for accountability and transparency in the enforcement of these policies.

🤔 I'm not surprised about this case, but it's still crazy that someone got wrongfully deported like that! The whole thing sounds so fishy to me - who tries to deport someone to a country where their family will be targeted? 🙅‍♂️ And now Abrego Garcia is being released and can finally try to get his life back on track. I just hope he gets the asylum he's been seeking... it's like, what even is going on with all these deportation policies? 🤷‍♀️

This is just crazy, I'm telling you, it feels like we're back to the days of the asylum seekers being sent back to their own countries without any real process 🤯. Remember when Obama was dealing with that whole Arizona SB 1070 controversy? Now this Abrego Garcia guy is being deported despite an immigration judge ruling against him in 2019... what's going on? It's like they're trying to set a bad precedent for future immigrants who might be seeking asylum or facing deportation. And the part about Costa Rica rescinding its offer, that's just red flag alert 🚨. The system needs so much reform, I'm not sure how else you can describe it...

I'm so relieved to hear that Kilmar Abrego Garcia has finally gotten some justice 🙏💕. It's just heartbreaking to think about him being wrongly deported from his own country, not even knowing where he was going or why. The fact that he had been living in Maryland with his family for years and had already received a ruling saying he couldn't be sent back due to gang threats is just devastating 😱.

It's like, I get it, the Trump administration wants to enforce their policies, but this case is just an example of how hurtful and unfair those policies can be. Abrego Garcia didn't even do anything wrong - he was just trying to make a life for himself 🤷‍♂️. And to have all these false claims made about Costa Rica rescinding an offer to take him in? That's just ridiculous 😒.

Anyway, I hope this case helps bring some attention to the need for more humane and fair immigration policies. We should be working towards a system that protects people like Abrego Garcia, not punishing them 🤗.

🤯"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance." 💪 We gotta stand up for those who've been wronged, like Kilmar Abrego Garcia! His story's a harsh reminder that policies can hurt innocent people. 🤕

😊 this is insane what happened to kilmar abrego garcia, I mean he was already living here with his fam and the court said he couldn't be sent back but they just didn't care and kept trying to kick him out 🤦‍♂️ the whole thing about the human smuggling charges is super sus too, it's like they're trying to punish him for being in the wrong place at the wrong time 😒

I'm glad that the judge finally stepped in and said nope, you can't do this to people 🙌 it just shows that there are still good ppl in power who care about treating everyone fairly 👍
