The haunting Masters meltdown that changed Rory McIlroy’s career | CNN

The article is about Rory McIlroy's career and his struggles to win the Masters tournament. Here are the main points:

1. McIlroy had a promising start to his career, winning the US Open in 2011 and becoming the youngest major winner since Tiger Woods at The Masters in 1997.
2. However, he struggled with consistency and was disappointed by his performance at the 2011 Masters, where he lost to Bubba Watson after leading with nine holes to go.
3. Despite seven top-10 finishes in his past 10 Masters outings, McIlroy has yet to win the tournament, making him one of the few major winners to have completed golf's career grand slam without winning The Masters.
4. McIlroy has been working hard to improve his game and build momentum for this year's Masters, where he is set to compete in his 15th appearance at Augusta National.
5. He had a strong finish in 2022, but ultimately finished as runner-up to Scottie Scheffler, despite a brilliant 64 on Sunday.
6. At 33 years old, McIlroy knows that time is still on his side, and he has shown flashes of brilliance in recent tournaments, including an impressive victory at the PGA Championship in 2012.

The article concludes by noting that McIlroy's next step will be to win The Masters and complete golf's career grand slam.

man this guy rory mcilroy is like a ghost at majors he's got so much talent but can't seem to put it all together 🤯. i mean 7 top 10s in his last 10 masters outings and still no win? that's crazy. and you're right he needs to win the masters to complete the grand slam, that's like the ultimate goal for any golfer. i've been following him since he won the us open back in 2011 and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride ever since 🏌️‍♂️. but at 33 he's still got time to make it happen, i'm keeping my fingers crossed for him 💪.

I think it's kinda weird how everyone's hyping Rory McIlroy to finally win The Masters, like he's some kinda underdog or something. Newsflash: the guy's been close multiple times already! He had a great start back in 2011, winning the US Open and setting himself up for success. And yeah, he hasn't won The Masters yet, but come on, consistency is key... or so they say? Maybe McIlroy's just taking his time to perfect his game, you know? He doesn't need a trophy to validate himself. What I don't get is why everyone's making such a big deal about him finally winning The Masters. Can't he win it already?!

I'm not buying all this hype about Rory's struggles 🤔. He's had a solid career, no doubt about it, but the guy has been in contention at the Masters for years and still can't get over the finish line 💪. And what's with all the focus on him finally winning The Masters? Is he going to be 40 before that happens? 😂 At 33, he's got time, no doubt about it. I mean, Tiger Woods didn't win The Masters until he was 37! 🤷‍♂️ Still, I think McIlroy's getting a lot of love from the golfing world because of his charisma and all-around game, but let's see him close out that win before we start celebrating like it's already happened 🎉.

I gotta feel for Rory 😔, the guy's had some great moments on the course but just can't seem to close out that last big one 🏆. Seven top-10s at the Masters isn't bad, but you'd think he'd have one more under his belt by now 💪. Time is indeed on his side, though - 33's not old for golf, and we've seen plenty of guys come back from similar situations to win majors 🙌. The question is, what needs to change? Is it mental toughness, course management, or just a matter of putting everything together at the right time? I think he'll figure it out 💡, he's shown flashes of brilliance when it matters most. Can you imagine how sweet that would be for him - finally winning at Augusta 🏠👍

omg i cant believe rory mcilroy is still chasing this one 🤯 i mean he had a great start to his career but consistency has always been his issue... 7 top 10s in 10 masters outings ain't bad but winning the thing is a whole different story 🏆 his game is getting better and better but i'm not holding my breath 😅 at 33 he's got this window of opportunity where he can still make it happen, but we all know how golf is... nothing is ever certain until it happens 💪

I feel you Rory 😔... I mean, I know we're not even playing golf together, but it's tough to see someone with so much talent like you struggling to get that one win at the Masters 🏆. Seven top-10 finishes in 10 years is impressive, but consistency is key in this sport and it's clear you've been grinding hard for that elusive victory 💪. Your game has always had flashes of brilliance, remember that PGA Championship win back in '12? It gives me hope that you'll break through soon 🌞. At 33, you're not over the hill just yet 😉. Keep pushing, mate, and I'm sure we'll see The Masters winner's trophy lift up by your hands very soon 🎉!

lol i mean come on rory u gotta get ur master's fix lol 🏌️‍♂️ 14 major wins but no masters trophy 🏆 he's still got time tho at 33 he can do it 🕰️ his 64 on sunday in 2022 was insane 🔥 and that pga championship win in 2012 was a highlight reel moment 🎥 i think if he can just get over the hump this year, all of golf will be talking about him 😎

I feel for this guy Rory McIlroy 🤕. He's had some amazing wins already, like the US Open back in 2011, but then he just can't seem to get that one big win at the Masters 🏌️‍♂️. I think what's crazy is that he's almost won it seven times now and he's still waiting for his Masters title 😳. He must be feeling so much pressure with everyone expecting him to finally get it done. I'm rooting for him, though!

im watching this thread from like 3 days ago lol... rory mcilroy has been so close, i feel for him 😔 his game is always on point but sometimes it slips away at the worst times. he needs a miracle to win the masters now 🤞 gotta respect how hard he's worked for this and still not gotten that one major under his belt 💪
