Brad Lander announces run for Congress in New York's 10th District

New York City Comptroller Brad Lander Announces Congressional Bid in 10th District

In a move that has sent shockwaves through the Democratic party, Comptroller Brad Lander has announced his candidacy for Congress in New York's 10th District. The Brooklyn-based politician, who has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, released a campaign video on Wednesday morning, touting his years of service in the City Council and calling for an end to what he describes as "a moment of dark oppression".

Lander, who was elected as Comptroller in 2021 after spending 12 years in the City Council, where he co-founded the Progressive Caucus, has been a thorn in the side of the Trump administration on several occasions. In 2025, he was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while observing an immigration court hearing at 26 Federal Plaza, but was released hours later with charges dropped.

Lander's campaign video highlights his commitment to social justice and progressive values, as well as his determination to take on the Trump administration head-on. "While the oligarchy drives an affordability crisis, they shouldn't be able to buy a seat in Congress," he says in the video. "New York is for everyone."

The move is seen by many as a bid to capitalize on the growing popularity of progressive candidates among Democratic voters. With several other high-profile retirements set to shake up the party's leadership, Lander is poised to become part of a new generation of left-wing leaders.

However, Lander will face stiff competition from within his own party, particularly from Rep. Dan Goldman, who currently represents the 10th District. Goldman has released a statement saying he is focused on stopping the Trump administration's policies and criticizing Lander as a "far-left" candidate who is not in line with his own progressive record.

The contest for control of the party is set to intensify, with several other seats up for grabs in the coming months. If successful, Lander will join a growing cohort of progressive Democrats who are poised to wield significant power in Washington.

omg I'm SO here for Brad Lander 🀩 he's literally the only candidate who gets it - all these rich ppl think they can just buy seats in congress and it's like, nope not on our watch πŸ’Έ his commitment to social justice is everything and more 🌎 I mean, have you seen his video? "A moment of dark oppression" gives me CHILLS 😱 Dan Goldman thinks he's got this one in the bag but let's be real, Lander is the people's champ πŸ‘‘ I'm 100% voting for him, who else will stand up to the oligarchy and fight for affordable housing πŸ πŸ’•

🀯 I'm telling ya, Brad Lander's gonna be all over this 10th district like a bad rash! He's been talking the talk for years, and now it's time to walk the walk. His whole "dark oppression" vibe is giving me some serious Bernie Sanders vibes πŸ€ͺ, but at least he's not as old-school as Bernie πŸ˜‚. I'm curious to see how Dan Goldman rolls with this - they're like two peas in a pod, those two... both progressive, but also kinda establishment-y πŸ€‘. Can't wait to see the drama unfold! πŸ‘€

omg what's going on now? 😱 Brad Lander, the dude who got arrested by ICE like 2 yrs ago for doing his job, is running for Congress 🀯 And he's all about taking down the Trump admin and making NYC for everyone πŸ™Œ I mean, I get it, he's been a thorn in their side for ages πŸ˜‚ But, can't we just have one politician who isn't going to stir up drama? πŸ€” I guess that's not how politics works anymore πŸ’β€β™€οΈ anyway, this could be interesting... might be cool to see him take on the party too πŸ‘€

πŸ€” Can't believe he's throwing his hat into the ring after getting arrested for protesting... like wasn't that just last year? πŸ˜‚ Anyway, I gotta say, Brad Lander seems like a solid candidate - been all about social justice and progressive values for years. His message of "New York is for everyone" really resonates with me. And yeah, he's definitely got the right to speak out against the Trump admin πŸ—£οΈ. As for Dan Goldman being a "far-left" candidate... I think that's just code for "he's not as radical as Lander 😜". Still, gotta give credit to both of them for trying to shake things up in Washington πŸ’ͺ

🀯 what's going on with this guy Brad Lander? he's been making waves as NYC Comptroller and now he wants to jump into Congress like that? I think it's cool that he's speaking truth to power, but also a bit concerning - is he trying to make a name for himself or genuinely change the game? πŸ€”

I'm low-key worried about Brad Lander's chances in this election πŸ€”. He's got some serious baggage, and while I get where he's coming from on social justice issues, his methods might be too radical for some voters. I mean, getting arrested by ICE? That's not gonna fly with a lot of people in the 10th District πŸ˜’. Plus, Rep. Goldman is no slouch either - they're both progressive, but Lander's been pretty vocal about being a "far-left" candidate... that might alienate some folks who just want someone who's still left-wing but not too extreme πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Can't say I'm surprised he's taking on the Trump admin though, those guys are gonna keep pushing boundaries if anyone can 😬.

omg u guys i think brad lander 4 congress is literally a great move!! 🀩 he's been speakin out against trump for yrs & now hes gonna be reppin the ppl of nyc in DC thats gotta b awesome 😎 i mean yeah its gonna get competitive with dan Goldman but i think lander's got this πŸ’ͺ he's all about social justice & progressive values which is exactly what we need more of in politics 🌟 lets support him and hope for a brighter future for all americans πŸ‘

I think what's really interesting here is how we choose our leaders... I mean, it's easy to get caught up in the noise and label someone as 'far-left' or whatever, but at the end of the day, isn't that just a fancy way of saying they're not playing by the same rules as everyone else? πŸ€” Lander's campaign is all about speaking truth to power and standing up for what he believes in, even if it means going against the status quo. That takes courage, and I think we could all learn from his example... how can we use our voices to create change without getting caught up in all the drama? πŸ’¬

omg u guys Brad Lander just announced his run 4 congress 🀯 and I am SHOOK!! he's like totally been speaking truth 2 power on the city council for yrs & now hes goin up against Dan Goldman πŸ€‘ cant wait 2 see how this plays out btw, I think its awesome that more ppl r speaking up about social justice & progressive values πŸ’–

I think Brad Lander's chances of winning are super low πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Like, Rep Goldman is already setting himself up as the more "moderate" option and people are gonna go with that. And don't even get me started on how Lander's past run-ins with ICE are gonna come back to haunt him... I mean, who wants a candidate with a history of getting arrested by immigration authorities? 🚫 It's like he's trying to make himself unpopular on purpose. And let's be real, the Democratic party is all about pragmatism and finding common ground, not about embracing radical left-wing ideologies. So yeah, Lander's gonna struggle to get traction with voters in a swing district like this one... πŸ€”

OMG, I'm like totally divided about this πŸ€”... on one hand, I think Brad Lander is super brave for speaking out against the Trump admin and stuff πŸ™Œ... he's got a great track record of fighting for social justice and progressive values, which is so important πŸ’–. And, IDK, maybe having a "far-left" label won't be such a bad thing πŸ˜’... sometimes you gotta take risks to shake things up in Washington 🀯.

But, at the same time, I'm like totally concerned about Rep Goldman's statement 🚫... it sounds super petty and like he's more worried about looking good than actually making progress πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. And, honestly, if this is all about party politics, can't we just focus on getting stuff done for the people? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Anyway, I'm rooting for Lander πŸ’ͺ... fingers crossed he can bring some real change to DC 🌟!

πŸ€” I'm not buying it just because he's got some buzzwords like "social justice" and "progressive values". What's his actual plan for the 10th District? Like, how's he gonna make us lives better without all this empty rhetoric about "a moment of dark oppression"? πŸ™„ And what's with the timing? Is this a calculated move to capitalize on other people's retirements or is he genuinely passionate about it? I need to see some concrete actions and policy proposals before I get excited. Where's the source on these claims, btw? πŸ“°

Omg can you even imagine a world where politicians actually represent their people instead of just big donors 🀯 I'm low-key here for Brad Lander though, he's been speaking truth to power for years and it's about time someone like him gets a chance to lead the charge πŸ’ͺ The fact that he got arrested by ICE while doing his job is just another example of how messed up our immigration system is 🚫 We need more people in office who aren't afraid to stir the pot and fight for justice, not just those who are comfortable with the status quo πŸ‘Š

omg, can't believe Brad Lander is running for Congress πŸ€―πŸ—½οΈ, I mean, I kinda love how he's framing it as a "moment of dark oppression" and calling out the oligarchy πŸ’ΈπŸ˜’, but at the same time, Dan Goldman's got some legit points about Lander being "far-left"... anyway, this is gonna get super interesting, especially with the party control thing πŸ€”πŸ’ͺ

I'm like "what's next" right?! Brad Lander think he can just jump from Comptroller to Congress and take on Trump? 🀣 I mean, I love his spirit but this is crazy talk! He's got a point about the oligarchy driving an affordability crisis though... it's like they're just getting richer while the rest of us struggle.

And oh man, Goldman vs Lander? This one's gonna be a barn burner! πŸ’₯ I hope Lander can bring in some fresh blood and shake things up in Washington. We need more people willing to take on the powers that be and fight for real change. πŸ™Œ

omg what just happened!!! 🀯 so Brad Lander, he's like a total hero in NYC right? I mean, he stood up against the Trump admin and even got arrested by ICE while trying to do good! that's crazy talk 😲 but also kinda inspiring? how can one person make such a big impact? is it cuz he's been in politics for so long or is there something else going on here? πŸ€”

omg u guys i cant even believe brad landedr just announced he's running 4 congres in nycs 10th distrit 😲 i mean we all no he's been saying some crazy stuff for yrs but this is wild like what was he thinking getting arrested by ice while observing an immigration court hearing lol and now hes all like "oligarchy drives affordability crisis" 🀣 anyway im lowkey rooting for him cuz lets be real he's not gonna get swept under the rug by dan goldman he's got that progressive vibe goin on πŸ’ͺ

πŸ€” so Brad Lander's running for Congress and he's like "dark oppression"?? what's that even mean? sounds like some kinda code to me πŸ™ƒ and I need to see some concrete sources on this "affordability crisis" he's talking about, because last time I checked NYC wasn't exactly known for being affordable πŸ πŸ’Έ also, isn't Dan Goldman just gonna try to push Lander out of the party and not really have any actual plans himself? seems like a bunch of politicking to me πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

omg, another politician thinking they can just waltz into Congress and be like "I'm gonna save the day 🀣" Brad Lander's got some serious nerve releasing a campaign video about "dark oppression" while getting arrested by ICE last year πŸš”πŸ˜³. And now he's all like "New York is for everyone, let's take on the oligarchy" πŸ’ΈπŸ‘Š... meanwhile, Rep Goldman's over here trying to keep it real and saying Lander's too far out there πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ. Can we get a politician who's not trying to use their arrest as a campaign slogan? πŸ˜’
