Questionable call takes crucial TD away from Ravens in close loss to divisional rivals

In a heart-stopping finish, the Baltimore Ravens watched as their apparent touchdown turn into an incomplete pass with just 2:47 remaining in Sunday's divisional showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The crucial play was overturned on instant replay, leaving the Ravens without the go-ahead score that would have secured a victory.

Lamar Jackson connected with tight end Isaiah Likely in the end zone, and it appeared as though Likely had secured the catch by juggling the ball away from Steelers cornerback Joey Porter Jr. However, officials deemed that Likely had not established control of the ball before Porter's outstretched hand knocked it loose.

NFL Vice President of Instant Replay Mark Butterworth explained that a receiver must have control of the ball and both feet inbounds to complete a catch. In this case, Likely did meet those criteria, but the referee deemed that he didn't maintain possession long enough.

CBS broadcaster Tony Romo and play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz initially called the play as a touchdown, saying it seemed like a clear catch by Likely. However, after reviewing the footage on instant replay, they agreed with officials' ruling that it was an incomplete pass.

The Ravens ultimately lost 27-22 to their divisional rivals, but a contentious call in a close game is sure to be debated long after Sunday's matchup has concluded.

This is why I love football, right? πŸˆπŸ˜‚ The NFL is like my grandma - unpredictable and always up for a good debate! πŸ˜‚ I mean, who needs a touchdown when you can have a play that'll make everyone question the refs' sanity? πŸ’β€β™‚οΈ This call was like a bad joke - "Hey, let's turn a sure thing into a no-score!" 🀣 Anyway, congrats to the Steelers on their W, and Ravens fans will just have to try harder next time... or just have another drink, am I right? πŸ˜‚

ugh, what's up with these replay rules?! 🀯 I mean, i get it, accuracy is key and all that jazz, but can't they just make the calls already?! 😩 Lamar Jackson is getting robbed on that play... Isaiah Likely had control of the ball for like 2 seconds and you're telling me he didn't have "both feet inbounds"? πŸ€” come on! I'm sitting here watching this game thinking 'what a catch!' and then i see the replay and i'm like 'wait, what?'. it's just one of those calls that makes you wanna pull your hair out. πŸ˜‚

man what a finish!!! 🀯😱 i feel for the ravens, they were so close... but you know how replay works - it's all about the details πŸ“Ί. it's crazy how one little thing can change the whole game like that. i mean, isiah likely did have control of the ball, but apparently not long enough 😐. and i get why the refs made the call, safety first and all that, but ugh it stings to watch in hindsight πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. the nfl needs to figure out a way to make replay more reliable, it's like they're still figuring it out πŸ’‘. any way, on to next week... maybe they'll get it right 🀞

Ugh, can't believe how frustrating this instant replay system is 🀯... I mean, come on, it's just one of those calls that leaves you wondering what could've been. Like, if the refs would've gotten it right, who knows how the game would've ended? The Ravens were so close to taking down their division rivals and now they're walking away empty-handed πŸ€•... and on top of all this, you've got announcers like Tony Romo calling out the officials for making the wrong call πŸ‘Ž. And don't even get me started on how it's always the smaller plays that get all the attention when it comes to instant replay πŸ™„. It's just so frustrating watching these high-stakes games and knowing the outcome is being dictated by a screen in the broadcast booth πŸ“Ί...

ugh, my heart is still racing thinking about that play!!! 😩 what's going on with those officials?!? Lamar Jackson throws the ball to Isaiah Likely and it looks like he's got the catch for sure... but noooo, they gotta go and strip him of it! 🀯 and then I'm watching Tony Romo and Jim Nantz trying to justify their mistake by saying it was an incomplete pass... I don't get it, guys! πŸ™„ the play looked so clear to me, especially when you're seeing it on replay. Mark Butterworth is just spewing his script like a robot without any heart πŸ’€ or feeling for those Ravens fans who were so close to celebrating that win πŸŽ‰. it's not just about the call, it's about the emotion and drama of it all... now I'm gonna be thinking about this play on repeat all week 😩

πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ ugh, the nfl really needs to work on those instant replay rules πŸ™„. I mean come on, a catch or not? it's just so frustrating when you're watching and thinking "yeah, he clearly had control of that ball" but then it gets overturned and you're left wondering what happened πŸ˜’. mark butterworth is always going on about receivers needing to have both feet inbounds, but honestly, who has time to be like "oh no, my foot's just out of bounds"? it's not exactly rocket science πŸ€”. the nfl needs to simplify these rules so we can actually enjoy the game without getting all worked up over one call 😩

OMG 🀯 I'm still shaking my head over that last play πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ! The officials are gonna get roasted for that one πŸ’β€β™€οΈπŸ˜‘. I mean, come on, it was a catch by all accounts πŸ“Ί, and the cameras didn't lie πŸ”. You can't win championships without a little bit of luck and callouts like this... or lack thereof πŸ˜’. It's games like these that make Sundays even more thrilling, you feel? πŸ€” Still got love for Lamar Jackson though - what a season he's having πŸ™Œ!

man... that finish was insane 🀯! i dont get why they didnt just leave it alone lol. if it wasnt clear cut a catch, then just say so instead of sending it to replay πŸ˜’. like, what even is the point of instant replay if its just gonna be close calls all the time? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ and meanwhile, steeler fans are just celebrating like they won the superbowl πŸŽ‰. guess you could say they got lucky... πŸ‘€

omg can't believe that ref made the wrong call!! Lamar Jackson and Isaiah Likely had that play locked down, it was like a slam dunk 🀯. I mean, who needs control of the ball with both feet inbounds when you've got the defender's hand on your face?! πŸ™„ it's just not fair. The Ravens were so close to taking that W and now they're gonna be thinking about what could've been for weeks... πŸ˜”

Man, what a bummer for the Ravens! πŸ€• I feel bad for Lamar Jackson and his team, they were so close to winning that game πŸ’”. But at the same time, you gotta respect the officials' decision, it's not an easy call to make especially in a game as intense as this one πŸ”₯. The NFL is all about instant replay now, so it's only fair that these kinds of calls get reviewed multiple times πŸ‘€. Still, it's tough to swallow when it doesn't go your way πŸ˜”. Maybe the Ravens will learn from this and come back stronger next season πŸ’ͺ?

I'm low-key salty for the Ravens 🀯. I mean, come on! You gotta have faith in that crazy catch by Isaiah Likely πŸ˜‚. The ref just stripped him of 6 points? It's like they're trying to make our lives more complicated than a Patriots game πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. And don't even get me started on the announcers, Romo and Nantz... what were you guys thinking? "Clear catch" but then not wanting it that way? Give us some consistency, guys! πŸ˜’

πŸ€” what's up with this rule? can't have a receiver just chill and catch a ball without some kinda timing on it... seems like it should just be about the receiver having the ball and both feet inbounds, not trying to maintain control for 10 seconds straight. πŸ’ͺ

😊 This is just another example of how the NFL can't seem to get the calls right πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. I'm all for them reviewing those plays, but come on, 2:47 remaining and they still manage to mess it up? It's like they're trying to make it as close to impossible as possible for teams to win 😩. The Ravens were so close to taking that lead and now they've gotta live with the bitter taste of what could've been πŸ€•. I'm also not buying the explanation from Mark Butterworth, a receiver needs both feet inbounds AND control of the ball? Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me πŸ™„.
