US Congressman Henry Cuellar Claims He Was Indicted by Biden's DOJ Over Open Border Policies Opposition
Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Democrat from Texas, claims that he was indicted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) under the Biden administration because of his opposition to the administration's open border policies.
Cuellar made this claim during an interview with Fox News' Maria Bartiromo on "Sunday Morning Futures." When asked whether he believed he was indicted due to his criticisms of former President Joe Biden's "open border" policies, Cuellar responded, "Absolutely. The president was right. And I now – looking at all of the evidence and looking at everything – I definitely feel that I was weaponized."
Cuellar alleged that the DOJ attempted to set him up through a sting operation, which ultimately failed. He also claimed that the Biden administration and the DOJ were responsible for trying to entrap him.
"I'll tell you something… if they want to come after me, because I was a critic about open borders, that's one thing. But you don't bring the family in. You just don't do that," Cuellar railed. "You don't — as a prosecutor — you just don't do that type of situation."
Cuellar also stated that he had spoken with House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan and requested a meeting to discuss a potential investigation into the prosecutors who brought the indictment against him and his wife.
The congressman's claims come after he was pardoned by former President Donald Trump on Wednesday. Cuellar was indicted in May 2024 for bribery and acting as a foreign agent, allegedly accepting $600,000 from the Azerbaijan government in return for the congressman’s assistance in Washington. His wife, Imelda Cuellar, was also indicted in connection with the investigation.
Cuellar's allegations of political retaliation raise concerns about the DOJ's handling of cases against politicians and their family members. The incident has sparked a heated debate over the Biden administration's policies on immigration and its treatment of critics.
