Trump wins his peace prize from Fifa – any chance of a VAR review?

US President Donald Trump has won the inaugural Fifa peace prize, an award that was hastily created to flatter his ego. Gianni Infantino, Fifa's president, delivered a cheesy speech as he handed over the trophy, which features "Donald J Trump" emblazoned in capital letters on its plinth.

The award comes after a ceremony held at the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, where Trump was joined by foreign leaders such as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. The event was designed to boost Fifa's image, which has struggled with issues of cronyism and corruption.

Trump's acceptance speech was met with mixed reactions from the audience, who were largely comprised of Fifa officials and guests. The ceremony featured a montage of football clips, including Diego Maradona's infamous "Hand of God" goal for Argentina against England in 1986.

Critics have argued that Trump was awarded the prize due to his strong connections with Fifa, which has been accused of being overly reliant on US backing. Gianni Infantino has been spotted attending high-profile events at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and meeting with him at the Oval Office.

The decision to award Trump the peace prize has sparked debate about whether it was a genuine recognition of his achievements or simply a way for Fifa to curry favour with the US president. Whatever the motivation, Trump has taken full advantage of the opportunity, describing the award as one of the "great honours" of his life.

As for any chance of controversy over the decision, the Fifa supreme council has ruled that there will be no VAR review.

I'm low-key surprised that Trump won the FIFA peace prize 🤔🏆. I mean, it's not like he's exactly known for being all about world peace and stuff. It feels like they just wanted to give him a pat on the back for being a good buddy to FIFA 😊.

And can we talk about the trophy? "Donald J Trump" in capital letters? That's some next-level ego-stroking right there 🙄. I'm not sure if it was meant to be ironic or just straight-up weird.

I don't know, maybe I'm just being a cynic, but it feels like FIFA was trying too hard to make amends for their own issues with cronyism and corruption 🤷‍♂️. And now Trump's just using this as an excuse to show off his trophy 🏆👀. Either way, it's definitely been some drama-filled moments! 🎉

What a joke 🤣! The whole thing just feels like a publicity stunt to me. I mean, who awards a peace prize to someone with such a questionable track record on global issues? It's like they're trying to rewrite history or something. And that trophy design is straight out of a bad propaganda film - all caps and bold letters for "Donald J Trump" 🙄. The fact that Gianni Infantino handed it over himself just adds to the sense of nepotism.

🤔 I'm not buying it! The whole thing seems like a publicity stunt to me. I mean, who awards peace prizes to world leaders at fancy events with all the fixings? It's just too convenient for Trump to get his ego stroked by Fifa in such a public way.

And have you seen the trophy itself? "Donald J Trump" emblazoned on it like it's some kind of bragging right. It's just plain cringeworthy. And what about all those other leaders, like Mark Carney and Claudia Sheinbaum, who were there too? Were they just there for the free food and networking?

I'm not saying Trump doesn't have his fans or accomplishments (although I do think he can be a bit... divisive), but this whole thing feels like a PR disaster waiting to happen.

🤦‍♂️ I don't get it. A peace prize? Come on! 🙄 Trump's acceptance speech was all about him and his ego, not exactly inspiring or uplifting vibes. And what's with the trophy design? "Donald J Trump" in capital letters? It feels like Fifa just wanted to stroke his ego, not promote genuine global understanding or peace. 😒 And don't even get me started on VAR not being reviewed... that's basically an invitation for controversy! 🤔 I mean, can't they see how this whole thing is a PR disaster? 📺

😒 I'm so underwhelmed by this whole thing. I mean, who gives out a peace prize to a guy who's still got a reputation for stirring up drama and division? It's like they're trying to sell us on the idea that Trump is somehow above criticism just because he's a football fan now 🤷‍♂️. And let's be real, that trophy design looks like something out of a bad 90s sports movie 🔴👎. Can't believe Fifa would resort to this kind of self-serving PR move when they're already facing so many legitimate issues with corruption and cronyism 🙄. The fact that Trump took full advantage of the opportunity and declared it one of his "great honours" just proves he's still got a bit of a diva complex 🤸‍♂️. And what's up with no VAR review? Are they afraid to take a stand against controversy? 😂

idk why fifa needs a peace prize lol... they're like trying to buy goodwill or something 🙄 and trump getting it is just... wow. i mean, his whole "peace" thing is pretty ironic considering all the drama he's been involved in. anyway, gotta hand it to them for trying to boost their image after all that controversy 🤷‍♀️

but honestly, who do they think is going to be like "oh yeah, we gave peace prizes out and now our reputation is even better"? newsflash: it's not gonna work 💁‍♀️. still, congrats to trump i guess? 🎉 (just kidding)

What a joke 🤣 fifa is such a farce, always trying to make themselves look good by awarding prizes to whoever they feel like 😂 trump's ego is definitely flattered but let's not forget fifa's own dirty laundry they're as bad as the players who get caught doping, or in this case, taking bribes 🤑. and what's with the ceremony at the john f kennedy center? shouldn't they be focusing on promoting football instead of trying to become part of the presidential circus? 🤷‍♂️

idk why fifa would give this prize to trump, like what exactly has he done for football? 🤷‍♂️ i mean, sure he's got a lot of money and connections but it feels like fifa just wanted an excuse to invite him to a fancy party. don't get me wrong, trump seems like a nice guy and all but come on... peace prize? 😜

🤦‍♂️ can you believe this? like fifa made up a whole prize just to give it to trump and he's literally soaking it all in 🤣 i mean, come on, 50k prize money is nothing compared to the free publicity he got from being recognized by fifa himself. and that speech was so cringeworthy, it made me wanna gag 🤢 maradona's highlight reel was a nice touch tho, but let's be real, we all know why trump won this thing 😂

can't believe fifa did this to themselves 🤦‍♂️ they're basically just giving trump a trophy and expecting everyone to be grateful 🙄 meanwhile, the real heroes like maradona get forgotten in all this noise 💔 and let's not forget, who exactly is on that ceremony guest list? seems like just a bunch of yes-men to me 👊

omg i cant even believe fifa just gave trump a peace prize lol idk what's going on with fifa right now but this is just wild 🤯 anyway congrats to whoever was actually meant to get that award i guess trump does know how to make an entrance tho 😂 and btw can someone explain why they put his name in capital letters on the trophy pls? 🤷‍♀️

omg what's fifa? i thought it was just some soccer thing 🤔 like, who is diego maradona and why is he famous? 🏆 and why do they have a peace prize now? i thought it was just for sports awards... or maybe it's that american guy with the funny hair? 🤣 david beckham would be way more suitable for this award lol

Ugh 🙄, this just feels like a joke, right? I mean, what's next, awarding it to Kim Jong Un or something? 😂 The whole thing just reeks of cronyism and Fifa trying to boost its image at the expense of actual progress. And let's be real, Trump's "achievements" don't exactly scream "peace and harmony". I think it's pretty clear that this was all about Fifa trying to butter him up, but it's just come off as a total PR stunt 📺.

I'm also low-key annoyed by the trophy itself - who thought it was a good idea to put Trump's name in capital letters on it? It's like they're begging for controversy. And don't even get me started on the audience reactions... mixed? Is that even possible at this point? 🤔

OMG, I'm like totally baffled by this whole thing 🤯! I mean, I've seen some crazy things in my time online, but awarding a peace prize to Trump? It's just weird 😳. I get that Fifa wanted to boost their image, but come on, couldn't they have picked someone else? Like, a real hero or something? 🤔

And don't even get me started on the ceremony itself... it was like watching a cheesy movie trailer 🎥. The montage of football clips was cool and all, but I didn't see how Maradona's "Hand of God" goal related to Trump's, um, 'achievements' 😂.

I'm curious to know what Trump said during his acceptance speech... did he talk about any real issues or was it just a bunch of empty words? 🤷‍♀️ Maybe I'll check out the video later and see what all the fuss is about 👀.

🤔 I'm not buying it. This whole thing feels like a publicity stunt to me. I mean, who gives out an award for peace just because someone's friends with you? It's gotta be more than that. Fifa's got some serious reputation issues and this is just gonna make things worse. I don't trust Gianni Infantino one bit - he's always been shady about the whole thing. And let's not forget Trump himself, what a character! He'd probably sell his own grandkids out for a selfie with him holding that trophy. 📸👊 The only thing more cringeworthy than the award itself is the ceremony where they showcased Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" goal... seriously? That was a low point, even back in '86.

I'm not sure what to make of this Fifa peace prize business 🤔. I mean, Trump's got a lot of connections with sports organizations and it's true he's been involved in some high-profile events. But is this really an award for promoting world peace? 🙄 It just seems like a PR stunt to me. And that speech from Infantino was cringeworthy 😂. The fact that Trump himself thought this was one of the "great honours" of his life says everything about him, imo.

I think it's also interesting that Fifa is trying to boost its image with this award, given all the recent controversies 🤦‍♂️. It's like they're saying "Hey, we've got our act together now!" Meanwhile, Trump's just milking the publicity for all it's worth 💸. I guess only time will tell if this prize has any real impact or if it was just a publicity stunt to begin with 🤷‍♂️.

omg can u believe fifa is giving out an entire peace prize just 2 satisfy trump's ego lol i mean who even thought this was a good idea? they must be desperate 4 ratings or something idk how else 2 explain it. and btw does anyone think the trophy looks like a rejected prop from a bad 90s movie? "Donald J Trump" in all caps on the plinth sounds like something out of a parody sketch 🤣

I dunno about this Fifa peace prize thing 🤔... it just feels like they're trying too hard to win Trump's favour 🙄. I mean, come on, a trophy with his name in all caps? It's just begging for memes and ridicule 😂. And what's up with the ceremony at the Kennedy Center? It felt super formal and awkward, kinda like watching an old VHS tape of my dad's wedding video from 1995 📼. Anyway, Trump's speech was pretty cringeworthy too, sounded like he was trying to give a State of the Union address or something 🤦‍♂️. Can't say I'm surprised though, it does seem like Fifa's been struggling with some shady stuff lately 🤑. Still, I guess it's nice that they're trying to boost their image... even if it feels like they're selling out a bit 😐.

lol what's fifa thinkin'?? award trump a peace prize? it's all about showin off their rich pockets & tryin to keep those usa dollars flowin in... don't get me wrong, trump can be pretty weird but I think this is just a whole lotta hype 🤣👀
