Sleep Awake review – Gary Numan cameos in an overly straightforward sleep-deprivation horror

"Sleep Awake: A Harsh Reality Check"

In a year overflowing with innovative video games, Sleep Awake stands out as an exercise in disappointment. This psychological horror game promises a haunting experience, but what we get is a shallow and uninspired exploration of a desolate world.

The game's visuals are its most striking feature, transporting players to a post-apocalyptic landscape that recalls the work of artist Piranesi. The city, though ravaged by time, remains a magnificent creation of imagination. However, this beauty is wasted on a narrative that fails to provide any real answers about the downfall of society.

The gameplay itself is equally underwhelming, with Katja, our protagonist, navigating through a world devoid of tension or challenge. Enemies follow predictable patrol routes, and the puzzles are simplistic and unengaging. Rolling carts into electricity breakers and finding keycards to unlock doors are tedious tasks that add nothing to the overall experience.

The introduction of Gary Numan's voice as the disembodied head of Hypnos is a jarring cameo, feeling more like a marketing gimmick than an organic part of the game. His presence adds a sense of unease, but it's a fleeting moment in an otherwise dull and uneventful journey.

Sleep Awake's most impressive aspect is its ability to create unsettling FMV sequences that are both beautiful and unnerving. These moments are fleeting glimpses into a world beyond the game's mundane gameplay. However, even these visuals are not enough to save the game from its overall lack of imagination and interaction.

The death screen, which transforms the player's experience in a surreal and dreamlike manner, is one of the few times Sleep Awake shows any real potential. But this momentary brilliance is quickly extinguished by the game's inability to sustain any real tension or excitement throughout.

In the end, Sleep Awake feels like a missed opportunity. With its stunning visuals and haunting atmosphere, it could have been something special. Instead, it remains a shallow and forgettable experience that fails to deliver on its promise of a psychological horror game.

omg i totally agree with this review 😩 sleep awake is literally one of the most overhyped games i've ever played it looks so beautiful but thats where it ends the gameplay is so boring and predictable i mean come on rolling carts into breakers? who cares? 🙄 and don't even get me started on gary numan's cameo it felt like they just threw him in there to try and make the game seem cool 😂 but honestly the only thing that kept me awake during gameplay was the death screen and even that got old fast 🤯 what a disappointment

idk why ppl r makin such a big deal about dis game sleep awake 🤔. i mean, its got some nice visuals i guess, but thats it. the story's all vague and stuff, just throwin ppl in dis desolate world w/o anythin to do or explore. the gameplay's pretty basic too, just run around n' try 2 find ur way outta a place that's pretty empty 🚫. dont get me wrong, those FMV sequences r some nice touches, but they're not enuf 2 save the game from bein a total snooze fest 😴.

😔 I gotta say, I was really hyped for this game but unfortunately, it's a total letdown 🤕. The visuals are straight fire 🔥, I'm talking Instagram-worthy pics, but the gameplay is so lackluster 😴. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to make puzzles with just rolling carts into electricity breakers? 🙄 And don't even get me started on Gary Numan's cameo - it felt like they were trying too hard to be edgy 😒.

But what really gets me is how it wastes all that potential. The FMV sequences are super unsettling and beautiful, but they're just brief glimpses into a world that's overall pretty dull 🌫️. And don't even get me started on the death screen - it's like the only good thing about this whole game 😭.

I guess what I'm saying is, Sleep Awake had some cool ideas but it never quite came together 🔩. It's like they took all these great elements and just...phoned it in 📞. Anyway, if you're a fan of horror games, you might want to skip this one 🚫.

OMG u guys I just played Sleep Awake and idk what happened 😩 the story is so whack like who even made this world & why did they make it so desolate?? 🌫️ the gameplay is literally the most boring thing i ever experienced in a game lol rolling carts into breakers is so lame 🤦‍♀️ & don't even get me started on the puzzles 🧐 it's like they took all the most basic puzzles and just rehashed them over and over again... and what's with gary numan?? 🎸 his cameo was so jarring i felt like i was in a weird music video or something 😂 but at least the FMV sequences were kinda cool 👻 maybe they could've made the whole game like that but alas it feels like they didn't even try hard enough 💔

OMG u guys i just finished sleep awake 🤯 and i gotta say its like they took all the good stuff from psychological horror games and threw it out the window 😔 i mean dont get me wrong the visuals r insane Piranesi vibes for days 🎨 but its like they forgot how to make a good story 📚 the gameplay is soooo predictable and boring like rolling carts into breakers lol wut 🤦‍♀️ and thats not even gettin started on gary numan's cameo 😂 i mean whats up with that? its like they just threw it in for clout 💁‍♀️

I was really looking forward to playing this one, but now I'm kinda relieved it didn't live up to the hype 🤷‍♀️. I mean, those visuals are STUNNING 😍, and I love how they transport you to this post-apocalyptic world. But at the end of the day, it feels like a bit of a snooze fest 😴. I get that not every game can be a thrill ride from start to finish, but still, it's gotta feel more engaging than just rolling carts around and solving easy puzzles 🤯. The FMV sequences were actually really creepy though 👻, and that final death screen moment was like... wow! 💀 Maybe they'll take some notes from that part and turn Sleep Awake into a sequel or something? 💭 Who knows? 😊

😒 sleep is overrated 💤 this whole 'psychological horror' thing is just an excuse for lazy devs 👀 who can't be bothered to create actual tension or scares 🎃 just more hype than gameplay 😴

I mean come on 🤦‍♂️ the game's visuals are straight fire 🔥 but the rest is just meh 😐. I love Gary Numan's voice though 👍 it adds this weird unease vibe that's kinda cool. But overall, it feels like they took some decent ideas and mashed them into a boring mess 🤯. I mean who thought it was a good idea to have Katja just roll carts everywhere? 🚮 And don't even get me started on the puzzles 🧩😴. It's like they wanted to make it easy for players but still try to pass it off as "psychological horror" 😒. Newsflash: if you can't deliver on the gameplay, don't call it a psychological horror game 🚫. At least have the decency to make it hard and challenging 🤔.

😒 I gotta be honest, I was really hyped for Sleep Awake but after playing it, I felt like I wasted my time 🕰️. The visuals are super immersive, I love the way the city looks all desolate and stuff 😨. But the gameplay is so boring, Katja's just wandering around, doing nothing exciting 😴. And don't even get me started on Gary Numan's cameo, it felt like they just threw that in there as a marketing gimmick 🤦‍♂️. The FMV sequences are cool, I'll give them that, but they're not enough to save the game from being so... meh 😐. I mean, I've played games that were way more tense and scary than Sleep Awake, it just didn't do it for me 🤷‍♂️. Maybe I'm just not the target audience for a psychological horror game? 🤔

I just played this game and I gotta say... it's super frustrating 🤔. On one hand, the world they created is actually kinda beautiful - like, I can see why the artist Piranesi would be an inspiration for them. And those FMV sequences? Mind blown 😲. But on the other hand, it feels like all that beauty and atmosphere is wasted on this really boring gameplay. I mean, come on... a game where you just roll carts into breakers? 🙄. It's like they took every cliche from psychological horror games and mashed them together without adding anything new or interesting.

And don't even get me started on the narrative... it's all like "oh, stuff happened" but there's no real depth to it. I'm left wondering what actually went down and why this world is so messed up 🤷‍♀️. It's like they had a really cool idea but didn't know how to execute it.

I guess my point is... sometimes you gotta ask yourself, what's the real cost of chasing innovation? Is it more important to create something new and exciting or is it better to put in the time and effort to make sure everything comes together? 🤯

Ugh, this game is a total letdown 🤦‍♂️! I mean, the world-building is super unique and Piranesi vibes are always fire 🔥, but come on, it's like they took all that cool stuff and just...phoned it in. The gameplay is so basic, it's like they didn't even try to make it challenging or anything 🙄. And don't even get me started on the Gary Numan cameo - that was just lazy marketing, imo 😒. But, I gotta give 'em props for those sick FMV sequences, that was some trippy stuff 🤯. The death screen was pretty cool too, but yeah, it's all downhill from there...

OMG, just played this new horror game Sleep Awake 🤯😴 and I gotta say... what was the devs thinking?! 😂 The visuals are straight outta a sci-fi movie, but the gameplay is like they took every boring puzzle from a kiddie's game and mashed them all together into one big snooze fest 😴👀 And don't even get me started on the Gary Numan cameo... it was like they threw in a few bucks to make it seem cool 🤑. The only thing that kept me engaged was when I got to the death screen and stuff started getting trippy 🔮💥, but then it just went back to being boring again 🤷‍♀️ Overall, this game feels like it missed its chance at being a real psychological horror experience 😔👎

I just played this game Sleep Awake and I gotta say, it's such a letdown 🤕 The graphics are straight fire 🔥 but the gameplay is super basic and boring 😴. I mean, who thought rolling carts into electricity breakers would be exciting? 🙄 And don't even get me started on Gary Numan's cameo... feels like they just threw that in there to be cool 😎. The FMV sequences are pretty cool tho 👻, but it's not enough to save the game from its overall lack of imagination and excitement. I was expecting a psychological horror game, but what I got was just a slow and uneventful journey 🚶‍♀️. Maybe they should've stuck to the good stuff and left out the boring parts 😐.

I don't know what's up with this one 🤔... I mean, the graphics are straight fire 🔥, like whoa! But the gameplay is just so meh 😴. It's like they took all the hype and excitement and replaced it with some generic stuff that's supposed to be scary but isn't even close 🎃. And don't even get me started on Gary Numan... what's up with that? It feels like they just threw his voice in there because he's famous or something 🤷‍♂️. And the puzzles are literally just rolling a cart into a box 🔴. Like, where's the challenge? Where's the excitement? I dunno, maybe I'm just not the target audience for this game 😔... but honestly, it feels like they could've done so much more with it 🤯.

omg, i was SO stoked for this game 🤯 but honestly, it's like they took every cool idea from other horror games and mashed them together without really adding anything new 🚮 i mean, the visuals are straight fire 🔥 but that's about where it ends for me. the gameplay is so boring 😴 and the story is just...meh 🤔 i don't get why they couldn't make it more engaging or mysterious. and don't even get me started on gary numan's cameo 👻 it feels like they're just trying to be edgy instead of actually being creative. anyhoo, if you want a real thrill ride, play something else 🎮

I'm so underwhelmed by this game I mean what's the point of exploring this desolate world if there's no real tension or challenge? The graphics are straight out of Piranesi's sketchbook, but it feels like we're just looking at some cool art without a story to back it up. And don't even get me started on Gary Numan's voice 🙄 - I mean I love his music but come on it feels like they just threw that in there for shock value. The FMV sequences are the only time I felt anything, and then they're over too soon 😴. Can't we just have a game where we can actually feel scared or invested for once? 🤯
