Bipartisan support, outrage pour in after 'targeted' DC shooting of National Guardsmen: 'Horrific'

Bipartisan Support Erupts After DC Shooting of National Guardsmen Described as 'Horrific'

Lawmakers from both parties in Washington, D.C. have swiftly come together to offer support and condemnation for the shooting of two West Virginia National Guard members just blocks away from the White House. President Donald Trump, who referred to the suspect as an "animal," described the incident as "horrific" while praising the bravery of the National Guardsmen.

The shooting left both guardsmen critically wounded, and they are currently being treated in separate hospitals. The FBI has confirmed that the suspect is also severely injured but has not been officially identified yet.

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey, a Republican, expressed his devastation upon hearing the news, stating he and his wife were "devastated" by the event. He initially reported that both guardsmen had died in the incident but later corrected himself after receiving more information.

In response to the tragedy, the state's Democratic delegation also came together to express their sympathy for the victims' families. Del. Mike Pushkin, D-Kanawha, chairman of the West Virginia Democratic Party, condemned the shooting as a "cowardly and tragic act of violence" that transcended party lines.

California Governor Gavin Newsom echoed similar sentiments, saying there must be "zero tolerance for violence" against military personnel who serve their country selflessly. Maryland Governor Wes Moore extended support to Morrisey by offering assistance and condemning the violence in the strongest terms possible.

The Metropolitan Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Jeffery Carroll stated that the suspect allegedly launched an ambush-style attack on the two National Guardsmen, shooting them before other members of the Guard intervened and subdued him after being shot himself. The motive behind the attack remains unclear as it has not yet been identified.

This incident highlights the growing concern about "political violence" in recent times, particularly with high-profile incidents involving politicians or their supporters. Despite these concerns, lawmakers from both parties have come together to condemn the senseless act of violence and offer support for those affected by it.

In a statement released on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that there will be "a very steep price" paid by the individual responsible for the shooting. As news continues to unfold, one thing remains clear: the nation is united in its condemnation of this horrific incident and its support for the families of the victims.

man I'm soooo relieved that some ppl are finally standing together about this senseless act of violence against our troops πŸ™πŸ’ͺ it's like we've been saying for ages that this kinda stuff is getting outta control but finally some leaders are listening and taking action πŸ—£οΈ we gotta do better as a country to support our soldiers and keep them safe from ppl who can't even handle the fact that we have free speech and democracy 🀯 anyway i hope those two guardsmen pull through and get the help they need ASAP πŸ’•

πŸ€• This kinda stuff makes me super uncomfortable. Politicians should be better than this πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. At least they're showing some unity, that's good to see πŸ‘. But seriously, a "cowardly and tragic act of violence" is just a fancy way of saying someone got shot trying to hurt our boys and girls in uniform πŸ’”. Can't we all just take a deep breath and try to figure out what's really going on here πŸ€“?

πŸ˜” my heart goes out to those two brave National Guardsmen πŸ€• who were caught up in this senseless act of violence 🀯 it's absolutely horrific that they're still fighting for their lives πŸ’ͺ and their loved ones are going through so much pain 😩 we need more love and kindness in the world, not this kind of hatred and fear 😒 and to see politicians from both sides coming together like this is a beacon of hope ❀️ lets focus on supporting our troops and families, they're the real heroes πŸ™

πŸ€• it's crazy how quickly politicians can put their differences aside when something like this happens... i mean yeah we all hate senseless violence πŸ’” but the fact that they're rushing to offer support to the victims' families is what matters most πŸ™ the thing about politics is that you don't see a lot of bipartisan cooperation, but in times like these, it's nice to see everyone agree on something for once 😊

omg what's goin on here?? 🀯 so there's this guy who just shoots up 2 national guardsmen near the white house & everyone's all like "oh no" except for trump he calls him an animal which is super savage lol but seriously though bipartisan support? that's kinda cool. idk if i'd want to be a dem or rep right now tho. πŸ€” and california gov newsom saying zero tolerance for violence against military personnel? that's so true. we gotta respect those who serve their country, not shoot 'em up πŸ’―

πŸ€• this whole situation is so messed up... two good people just trying to do their job and now they're fighting for their lives... it's not even about party politics, it's basic human decency... and yet we see politicians from both sides rushing to condemn the act but also kinda kinda implying that maybe one side was more responsible for it than the other πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ newsflash: we're all humans here, let's stop playing politics with people's lives... what's really needed is a complete overhaul of our country's response to violence and mental health issues πŸ‘€

πŸ€• just saw that DC shooting news... two National Guardsmen shot & left critically wounded πŸ€’. Both parties are coming together like that? It's about time we put politics aside & focus on unity & supporting our troops πŸ’ͺ. Can't believe some ppl think violence is an acceptable way to express themselves 😑. Everyone deserves respect, especially those who serve their country selflessly πŸ™. I'm so glad California Governor Gavin Newsom spoke up about zero tolerance for violence against military personnel πŸŽ‰. We need more leaders like that & less finger-pointing πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ.

πŸ€• I'm so relieved that there's bipartisan support coming together after such a horrific event πŸ™. It's crazy how politics can bring us down, but in moments like these, it's amazing to see people come together and show empathy πŸ’–. The fact that California Governor Gavin Newsom is talking about "zero tolerance for violence" against military personnel is really important – our soldiers put their lives on the line every day, and they deserve nothing but respect and protection πŸ™Œ. I hope both guardsmen recover fully from their injuries and get the support they need to heal πŸ₯πŸ’•

OMG, just saw the news about those 2 West Virginia National Guardsmen getting shot in DC 🀯😱 #JusticeForTheVictims #DCShooting #NationalGuard. It's crazy to think that there are people out there who would do something so senseless & hurtful πŸ˜”. President Trump might have called the suspect an "animal" but at the end of the day, it's just another human being doing something terrible πŸ’”. I'm glad the lawmakers from both parties came together to support each other & offer condolences to the victims' families 🀝 #BipartisanSupport #CondolencesForTheVictims. We need more positivity & unity in our country, not hate & violence 😊 #NoToViolence #LoveConquersAll πŸ’•.

omg did u know that the best pizza place in DC just opened up near the white house πŸ•πŸ‘€ i went there last week with friends and it was SOOO good we ended up getting like 5 pies 🀣 anyway back to this shooting thing... i mean i'm not saying trump is wrong or anything but can we pls talk about how the national guardsmen were just doing their job and they didn't deserve to get shot? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ it's like, what even is the point of having a guard if they're gonna get ambushed all the time? πŸ€”

πŸ€” you think this whole thing is just a random shooting and not part of some bigger plan? I mean, 2 National Guardsmen get shot just blocks away from the White House and suddenly every single politician comes out of the woodwork to condemn it? It's all a bit too convenient if you ask me... πŸ€‘
